Gevuina avellana

is a native, evergreen tree common on Chiloe island. It produces edible nuts that are delicious both roasted and raw. The nuts are traditionally brewed like coffee, processed into nut butter, or ground into flour for baking. The oil from the seeds is rich in omega-7 fatty acids and is extracted for sunscreens and natural cosmetics.

Habitat & Range

Temperate rainforests, streambanks, and forest margins in Southern Chile and Argentina.
