Eucryphia cordifolia

is a beautiful tree with dense evergreen foliage and white flowers that bloom in summer (Jan – Feb). The fragrant, cup-shaped flowers give rich nectar excellent for honey bees. Local honey is often sold advertised as ‘Ulmo’ honey and has a distinct flavor. Ulmo is native to the Valdivian rainforests of southern Chile and Argentina.

Habitat & Range

Temperate rainforests, especially in the Andes foothills and coastal ranges. Humid, well-drained soils along riverbanks and mountain slopes. Regions VIII Biobío to X Los Lagos.
