Small tree or large shrub typically 4 – 10 m (9 – 35 ft). Flowers late spring. Common in forests in the southern half of Chiloe. Popular as an ornamental. The seeds are a favorite of the black-chinned siskins scientific name.

- Brilliant red, orange-red - 3.75 cm (1.5 in) long - Form at tips of branches - Blooms late October to early December

Thin, grey - Straight trunk
