Description
An evergreen tree or large shrub reaching up to 20 meters in height. It has leathery, glossy leaves that vary with age — younger leaves are often deeply lobed, while mature leaves become more elliptical with serrated edges. The upper surface is dark green and shiny, with a lighter underside. The white, tubular flowers grow in upright clusters and are rich in nectar, attracting native pollinators. Its round, dark brown nuts are edible and have been consumed by local communities for centuries. This species grows well in shaded, humid environments and is often found in temperate rainforests.
